Governance consists of the traditions and institutions by which authority in a country is exercised. This includes the process by which governments are selected, monitored and replaced; the capacity of the government to effectively formulate and implement sound policies; and the respect of citizens and the state for the institutions that govern economic and social interactions among them. And that is why our every vote matters in defining how we want to be led in a democratic system that we have accepted.

Voting is not just about a candidate or a party winning or losing. It's a message to.The world that we think and are confident of our thoughts. Lets not demean our status as the largest democracy in the world by not being able to give few precious. Moments of our life to ourselves.

"It is said that today we do not know what is the best form of governance.  Even democracy is being questioned for its various inherent short comings.  However, given our overall concern for fair play, justice and freedom in our every day conduct and life, elections offer the only viable means whereby we can fine tune the system and decide the way we would like to be governed."

V. Ranganath Rao, New Delhi

Democracy can only be strengthened by higher voter participation. Higher participation of Indian voters, coming from various religious, cultural, social, demographical and ethnic groups, in the electoral process will truly justify the saying of Mr Abraham Lincon. The least we can do is to Vote

"On any political issue, we very proudly testify that we live in a democratic country! But as the day to vote arrive most of us assuming the day off, plan out a happy holiday and decide to relax. So even if the country's constitution declares the country a democratic republic, are the citizens being democratic enough? Are the citizens trying to help democracy to function properly? Without voting the citizens are merely ignoring the most important right given to them by the constitution! The right to vote is the most powerful one, as it is in a way a decision making right and when the citizens have the right to  choose a government for their own development, then not voting is like depriving oneself, from any kind of betterment one may achieve . every vote is essential for the election of the most eligible party and if the state or central elections do get proper support from voters then an undesirable party would come up with the use of money and muscle power....then the country would not have the right to remain a democracy because the government thus formed would have been chosen by the minority, defying all the important elements of democracy. if people continue not voting then we would be forced to return to the age of despotism, ruled by a despotic government which has come to power with the support of minority population. therefore the efforts of our great freedom fighters to win independence would go in vain, as the present generation would have taken the county back to the age of despotic rule, only difference being that, Indians would be ruling over Indians as despots. Hence one vote can make all the difference as it would help in keeping democracy alive, elect a better government, overthrow the illegible government and eventually develop the country for global competition economically, politically and culturally."

Don't make a mockery of democracy

Forget the philosophy Every Vote Counts. Let us be practical. Let us keep our eyes and ears open. Let us see what is happening around us. I mean the neighbouring countries Pakistan what is happening out there? What rule it is Democracy? What happened earlier there?  Is it an election by any means? What about Nepal? Is it away from the tentacles of anarchy? What about Bangladesh? Is it free from mutinies? What is happening in Srilanka? peace is eluding that country for quite some time now.

Mother India stands tall amidst all these troubled nations as a greatest peace loving democracy. In spite of being teased with terrorism in its own soil.

The importance of anything will be realised only in its absence. Imagine for a moment we belong to any of these countries. We immediately realise that where we live is a heaven on earth.

Democracy is in its ripening stage in this country. Elections are an integral part of this system. All along, we have been lazy and lethargic when it comes to vote.  But no more. Be part of the system.  After reading this, I request you all to give a kiss to your EPIC (card). You do not know what it is??? Perhaps you are not a citizen of this country.

Hence, enjoy the Election Day Celebrate the holiday but NOT before franchising your vote. Celebrate democracy. Celebrate India. Jai Ho!

V. Chandrasekaran, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi.

The very mention of the word INDIA does not conju6re more than a picture of a word constituting of five letters in most of us. That is where we lack, the sense of belongingness to a great nation. This sense comes alive in us when we watch commandos storming TAJ and TRIDENT and we expect the extreme from them,  terrorist should escape alive till the last drop of blood of the last commando but when our turn to contribute comes we hesitate to shed even a few drops of our sweat, we do not VOTE. We the great regrets of a great nation! Please forgive me if I hurt anybody unwittingly but this is a sordid truth!  By voting we can create a sense of belongingness!

I feel that vote is the most important part of the democracy because without casting votes one cannot make a consensus.

Now the question is what is democracy.

As all of you know that Democracy is a govt by the people, from the people, for the people.

It is provided by the Constitution of the country and it helps in selecting a leader that voter thinks is a right person for the job in center or state level.

It must be used carefully because country or state future depends on the action taken by the chosed one. That means casting your vote is not just "my" constitutional right but a  duty also. I have emphasized the word "my" because when we talk about "our", we became lazy and whenever we talk about "my", we become alert as we are singled out.

So "I" will definitely cast "my" vote and and very very carefully.
